Tokyo is the largest city in the world by population given it’s 37 million inhabitants.
This is despite the retardation in the growth rate of the Japanese capital.
The population of the world is now at 8 Billion people with the population growth rate at it’s lowest in over 70 years.
There are reportedly around 56.2 percent of earth’s inhabitants living in urban areas and the number is prognosticated to rise to 70 percent by 2030.
“MEGAcities” are a sub-group of urban areas and boast the highest populations compared to other cities. The United Nations defines a megacity as one with a population of at least 10 million. There are currently less than 37 megacities in the world but the figure is expected to rise to 41 by 2030.
