During one of my "timetoJapa" researches, I sent an inquiry mail to a school in the US in regards to getting a graduate assistantship or a grant. They wrote back to me stating that they do not offer graduate assistantships or grants to international students but getting financial aid was an option.

Financial aid is more like a loan for college. Grants are a form of aid which you don't need to pay back. Grants are mostly based on Academic merit
