There was a 15 percent decline in the number of International students enrolled for study in the United States in the 2020/2021 academic year. The number of students in 2021 was 914,095 down from 1,075,496 in the previous year.
A parallel research conducted by the Mitchell Institute at Victoria University indicated that more students from different countries across the globe have opted for the US, UK and Canada amidst the pandemic.
The Fall semester of 2021 witness a four percent rise in the total number of International students enrolled for study in the United States. This was based on data from a survey conducted by the Institute of International Education (IIE).
The same study revealed that 70 percent of colleges in the United States witnessed a rise in the number of enrolled International Students during the Fall period of 2021. 20 percent reported a decrease while 10 percent reported similar enrollment levels.
2021 saw Chinese and Indian students making up 53 percent of the International student volume of the United States.
