Australia has been experiencing shortages in their workforce population leading to temporary relaxations on working hour restrictions for International students.
This has however raised concerns that some students could deprioritise their studies to focuse on work.
Worker shortages “down under” was an inevitable consequence of the pandemic and the country’s border closure.
The country’s Department of Home Affairs’ annkunced that students could work before their courses connenced and work for more than 40 hours every two weeks in any sector of the economy.
While this was initially meant to be reviewed in April 2022, the federal election in the country placed the government in a transition period wherein certain policy decisions are kept on hold.
To this effect, International students in Australia could have the opportunity to work for unlimited hours until at least June 2022.
