The stringent modalities in place for the issuance of visas by certain embassies are responsible the rising trend of illegal migration and human trafficking.
This was the purview detailed by Comrade Solomon Okoduwa, the Executive Director of the Initiative for Youth Awareness on Migration, Immigration, Development and Reintegration IYAMIDR.
Mr. Solomon made this remark while speaking t a ceremony to mark the 2021 World Migrants Day. He opined that there should be a roll back on strict policies stating that migration is a human rights and has been a part of human existence.
He noted that if there is no amelioration it could culminate in the exacerbation of irregular migration as migrants, who would otherwise have been eligible to improve economies post-COVID, may leverage on the onerous and illegal path of irregular migration routes.
