Travel firms in the UK have reported surges in sales, with unprecedented meteoric rises in enquiries and website traffic.
A spokesperson for Holiday Extras reported that bookings surged within hours of the government’s announcement, stating that it had a significant impact on traveler’s confidence to make bookings.
Alistair Rowland, the Chairman of travel trade body, ABTA, stated that while the New Year is traditionally a busy period for holiday sales, but concerns over testing mandates had discouraged travelers. Mr. Rowland stated that he was anticipating a “bookings boom” following news of the roll back in testing mandates.
Outbound travelers from the UK no linger have to take COVID-19 pre-departure tests while inbound travelers no longer need to isolate until they get negative PCR tests. Inbound travelers will however need to take a later flow test by the end of day two of their return.
