The Nigerian Senate Committee on Health stated that there is at least on major benefit emanating from the migration of Nigerian doctors abroad. The committee noted that many of said doctors were repatriating their skills and resources back to Nigeria.
Dr. Ibrahim Oloriegbe, who is the head of the committee, detailed this purview during an oversight duty with other members to the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH).
Dr. Ibrahim stated that modalities were in motion to provide improved remuneration and welfare packages for health workers and doctors in Nigeria. He opined that the fundamental law of demand and supply as well as pricing structures had an effect on the migration of Nigerian health care professionals abroad.
He said that legislation to restrict migration of workers would represent an infringement on the rights of the individuals.
