The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC| is seeking for better practices in migration by the government in order to provide veritable support returning migrant workers. The body has called for improved governance for the reintegration of migrant workers amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.
This stance was revealed by Mr. Bello Ismail, the Acting General Secretary of the NLC during a two day training workshop organized for Labour Correspondents Association of Nigeria (LACAN) on October 14th, 2021.
He stated that migration was a critical issue and was a cause of concern across the African continent. Mr. Bello further expressed concern over the vulnerability of migration workers in the midst of the disruptive coronavirus pandemic.
Mr. Bello said, ‘’There are also a lot of constraints facing them wherever they may be, whether in their country of origin, or the countries they are migrating to. So, our commitment is to work with our partners, the ILO and other stakeholders to ensure that wherever the worker may be, the worker finds that plane a conducive place to work and live’’
He said every worker should be covered by fundamental rights regardless of the country they are in.
