Man found alive in wheel of aircraft at Amsterdam Airport

The Dutch Police revealed that they found a stowaway in the landing gear area of an inbound aircraft from South Africa. The plane had landed at Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport following an 11-hour flight from Johannesburg.

The cargo aircraft was said to have made one stop at Nairobi, Kenya enroute to Amsterdam. The survival rate of stowaways on long haul flights is slim due to the low temperatures and low oxygen supply consistent with high altitudes.

Joanna Helmonds of the Royal Dutch Military Police stated, “The man was found alive in the nose wheel section of the plane and was taken to hospital in a stable condition.”

The aircraft was operated by Cargolux Italia.
