Rwanda Introduces Visa-Free Travel for Nigerians

Rwanda, a landlocked country in East Africa, has announced that it will allow Nigerian citizens to enter the country without a visa for up to 30 days. This is part of Rwanda’s efforts to promote tourism, trade and investment with Nigeria, as well as to strengthen the ties between the two African nations.

According to the Rwanda Embassy in Nigeria, Nigerian travelers can obtain a visa on arrival or submit an online application via

The visa fees are 50 USD for single entry and 70 USD for multiple entries. Alternatively, Nigerian citizens can also apply for an East African e-visa, which allows them to visit Rwanda, Kenya and Uganda for 90 days with a single visa.

Rwanda is one of the few countries in Africa that offers visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to all African Union (AU) member states. It also grants free visas to citizens of Commonwealth and La Francophonie countries for 30 days. Rwanda’s visa policy is aimed at facilitating regional integration, attracting foreign visitors and boosting its economy.

Rwanda is known for its natural beauty, cultural diversity and wildlife attractions. It is home to the endangered mountain gorillas, which can be seen in the Volcanoes National Park. It also has a vibrant capital city, Kigali, which offers modern amenities, historical sites and cultural events. Rwanda is also a safe and stable country, with a low crime rate and a high human development index.

Nigerian travelers who wish to visit Rwanda can book their flights from Lagos or Abuja to Kigali, which takes about four hours. They can also find accommodation options ranging from luxury hotels to budget hostels on various online platforms. They can also explore the country’s cuisine, music, art and festivals, which reflect its rich and diverse heritage.

Rwanda’s visa-free travel offer for Nigerians is a welcome opportunity for both countries to enhance their bilateral relations and cooperation. It is also a chance for Nigerian tourists to discover a new destination that offers scenic views, cultural experiences and wildlife adventures.
