British Council Increases IELTS Fees for Nigeria

The British Council, the official provider of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) in Nigeria, has announced a price increase for IELTS tests offered by the organisation. The new prices will take effect from 01 September 2023 and will apply to all test takers who register for IELTS tests on or after that date.

According to the British Council website, the new prices will be NGN 107,500 for IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training, NGN 116,000 for UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) and NGN 104,000 for Life Skills. The previous prices were NGN 89,500 for IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training, NGN 96,500 for UKVI and NGN 86,250 for Life Skills.

The British Council stated that the new prices are necessary to sustain the high-quality of standards for the testing experience. The test fee includes free exclusive preparation materials, practice tests and much more. The British Council also offers a number of convenient test dates in 11 official IELTS test centre locations across Nigeria. Test takers can choose to take their IELTS test on paper or on a computer.

IELTS is the world’s most popular English language test and is accepted as evidence of English language proficiency for higher education and global migration. Test takers can choose the right test based on where they want to go and what they want to do. There are different types of IELTS tests: IELTS Academic, IELTS General Training, IELTS UKVI and IELTS Life Skills.

IELTS General Training is suitable for those who want to work or train in an English-speaking country or migrate to Australia, Canada, New Zealand or the UK. IELTS UKVI is a secure English language test approved by the UK government for visa applications to the UK. IELTS Life Skills is a test of speaking and listening skills for people who need to prove their English level for UK visa applications.

Test takers can register for their IELTS test online through the British Council website2 or by visiting one of the British Council offices in Nigeria. They can also access all the information relating to their IELTS test in the Test Taker Portal3, whether they have taken a paper-based or computer-delivered test.
