The world’s first eco-friendly mosque is now open in Hatta, an enclave of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.
This development was revealed by the Emirates News Agency (WAM). The mosque is constructed by the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) and is set to inclued state of the art amenities and facilities like solar photovoltaic panels for renewable power generation, Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) and water recycling system
The building also boats a LEED v4 platinum rating which is a measure of the efficiency of its design and operation.
The mosque is located across an area of 1050 square metres with a capacity of 600 worshippers. It has a 25 metre high mnaret (tower) and conserves around 26.5 percent of energy and 55 percent of water.
The managing director and CEO of DEWA, Saeed Mohammed, said that the construction of the mosque was consistent with the Dubai 2040 urban master plan presented by Sheikj Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who is the vice president and Prime minister of the UAE as well as ruler of Dubai.
The plan details an integrated urban development roadmap based on sustainable development with the hope of making Dubai the best place to live in the world.
